Homemade Shamrock Shakes…an afternoon treat
In March the Shamrock Shake makes it way to McDonald’s menu in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day. I’ve been getting asked so much lately what I think of them. I’ve never tried the real version of a Shamrock Shake (not yet, but please believe I will be hitting up Mickey D’s as soon as this Muffin Top Challenge is done. so I can’t really compare it to the homemade recipe, but my guinea pigs say it’s pretty darn close.
I’m not really a huge mint lover but I’ve been craving all things minty lately. (Thin Mint girl scout cookies to be exact) but since I already had all of the ingredients to make a Shamrock Shake clone, I thought hey, why not!
I thought this recipe was pretty tasty and refreshing to basically be a vanilla ice cream/extract combo. My toddler enjoyed it way more than I did I think.
This recipe comes from Top Secret Recipes (gosh I love him). I printed it out years ago and I’m just now getting around to giving it a try. It’s pretty much on every major food site with 5-star reviews so I didn’t even bother making a test batch. Even though I did change up the measurements a little.
I hate to toy with a classic, but I’m so convinced that some cool whip & crushed chocolate mint cookies would set this shake off!! |
I used Edy’s brand ice cream. Very creamy! |
Use more or less, depending on your desired “shake consistency” Soymilk works to!! |

I just made that! It was amazing!! The only problem was that I could not find Mint extract so I used Mint & Peppermint extract! It was still amazing, the peppermint gave it a “Zing”
