I’ve been teaching my 15-month old a new color every week; this week it’s RED!

We’ve been making, tasting, smelling, seeing, hearing, touching all things red and I’m about to go red crazy!

This playdough was a fun craft that he loved playing with. I got the recipe from my mom. She was a preschool teacher for over 15 years so she always had some kind of craft she’d bring home for us to do as well.

This koolaid playdough was one of my favorites. I have never purchased the regular playdough because this stuff is much better. It’s so soft, safe, easy to make, cheap, last forever and it smells good too.

The Recipe

Homemade Kool-aid Playdough

By Divas Can Cook

Ingredients

  • 2-1/2 c. flour + flour for kneading
  • ½ c. salt
  • 2 packets of kool-aid
  • 2 cups of boiling water
  • 3 T. vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl add 2-1/2 cups of flour
  2. Add in ½ cup of salt
  3. Add in 2 packets of kool-aid
  4. Mix well to combine ingredients
  5. In a seperate, microwave safe bowl add 2 cups of water and place in the microwave for 10 minutes or until it starts to boil.
  6. **My sons favorite part!*** Carefully add the hot water to the dry mixture. Presto color magic!!!
  7. Add in 3 T. of vegetable oil
  8. Stir with a spoon until dough begins to form.
  9. Now it's time to get your hands REAL dirty. Dig in and start kneading and flipping thatdough. (If the dough is too hot to touch let it cool off a bit) Sit out a lil cup of flour because you're going to need to keep adding in a little flour while kneading it to keep it from sticking to your hands.
  10. It will be real sticky until you work in enough flour. Knead the dough in your hands and simply play with it while adding flour until a soft, nonsticky ball forms. Trust me, it will eventually form
  11. You now have kool-aid playdough and your child now have the coolest parent on the planet!!! Store in a ziplock bag. The playdough will be a tad oily the first couple of times you play with.
