Sweet Potato Recipes To Make All Year Long
It’s that time of year when sweet potatoes get all the love (move aside, pumpkin)! Sweet potatoes have always been a favorite of mine. Growing up, I thought it was so cool to have dessert with dinner, AKA candied yams!
There is just something so cozy, rustic, and comforting about sweet potatoes. From their gorgeous orange color and that naturally sweet flavor, they are a powerhouse and Southern staple.
Today, I’ll be sharing five of the best sweet potato recipes you’ll want to make all year long, beyond sweet potato fries and sweet potato casserole.
So if you’ve got some fresh sweet potatoes and need recipe inspiration, check out these fan-favorites!
1. Sweet Potato Pie
I have three sweet potato pie recipes on Divascancook.com. This one, this one, and this one. The one I’m sharing above is my favorite and the one I return to over and over again. It starts with a homemade buttery pie crust that’s good enough to eat on its own!
Why you’ll love it:
- The filling is super creamy and velvety smooth thanks to the blender method. No lumps or dreaded sweet potato strings!

4. Sweet Potato Brownies
If dense and chewy brownies are your thing and you’re game to try something a bit “different,” add these sweet potato brownies to the list! They are topped with a marshmallow glaze and pecans for flavors reminiscent of a delicious sweet potato pie!

Honorable mentions
1. Roasted Sweet Potato & Broccoli Or Roasted Vegetables w/ Bacon
If you’re looking for sweet potato recipes that are savory, it doesn’t get any easier than roasting sweet potatoes with broccoli or other vegetables! Simply throw the vegetables in a sheet pan, drizzle with olive oil, add spices, salt, pepper, and herbs like thyme or rosemary, and bake until tender.
2. Glazed Sweet Potato Hand Pies
What’s better than eating a homemade sweet potato pie? Eating a portable version! I think I like these sweet potato hand pies better than the real thing! They start with a buttery pie crust, smooth and creamy sweet potato filling, and finish with a simple vanilla glaze.
3. Caramel Candied Yams
I couldn’t close out this post without sharing a recipe for candied yams! This recipes start with steaming the yams to retain that gorgeous orange color. It features a unique buttermilk glaze that tastes like a light caramel syrup. They are delicious and easy.
Sweet Potato Tips
Since we’re working with sweet potatoes, here are a few handy, dandy tips to keep in mind!
- Choose small to medium sweet potatoes. They cook more evenly, tend to be naturally sweeter, and don’t get stringy like oversized sweet potatoes sometimes do.
- Storing sweet potatoes in the fridge can alter their texture and flavor, making them tough or gummy. Keep them in a cool, dark pantry with good airflow instead.
- Roasting sweet potatoes intensifies their natural sweetness and creates a deeper, caramel-like flavor.
