Baked Parmesan Tilapia
I’ve probably said this before but tilapia is my families favorite fish. It’s light, easy to prepare, mild flavored and doesn’t stink up my house when I cook it. Oh and Isaac likes it too which is a plus in my book.
I’m always looking for different ways to prepare and flavor tilapia and this baked parmesan tilapia is a winner. The fish is seasoned up to perfection with plain ol seasoning salt and Old Bay blackened seasoning. Bake it for a few minutes and then top with a yummy cheesy, seasoned breadcrumb mixture. All of this is then broiled to form a crisp, golden crust on top of the fish.
Sounds easy right? Well it is! And folks will probably think it’s a complicated dish to make when they taste it. You don’t have to tell them how you whipped that thang up in a matter of minutes.
Add it to your dinner rotation! I’ve tried it several ways; I’ve used crushed seasoned croutons instead of panko, ranch dressing instead of mayo, and changed the spices a bit to get different flavors. So have fun with if you’d like, but I always come back to this tried and true recipe. It’s a classic and always come out tasting great.

Ingredients
- 4 tilapia fillets, thawed
- Old Bay with Blackened Seasoning

- 4 Tablespoons Mayonnaise, I used Duke's
- 1/2 cup parmesan cheese, shredded (I used a parmesan-romano-asiago mixture)
- 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs
- 1-2 tablespoons butter, softened
- 1/4 teaspoon paprika
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon basil
- 1/2 tablespoon green onion flakes, can use regular onion flakes
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350
- Place fillets on a baking sheet lined with foil paper and sprayed with nonstick cooking spray.
- Season top of fillets generously with old bay and seasoning salt.
- Bake for 10 minutes.
- Meanwhile mix the remaining ingredients in a medium-size bowl.
- When fish comes out of the oven switch the oven to a LOW BROIL.
- Top the fish with a layer of the breadcrumb mixture, pressing it gently into the fish to keep it in place. (I always have a bit of the mixture left over)
- Broil for 3-5 minutes or until the topping is golden.
- Garnish with parsley.
- Serve and enjoy!
Notes
Watch the broil carefully. Some ovens broil run really hot!
Garnish with fresh parsley to add a pop of color.
Like bacon? Throw some crunchy, bacon on top! Yum!
I used the wrong type of breadcrumbs and it didnt come out as crunchy. Will try again in the future, but overall was still really good considering.
I had this tilapia last night and it was THE BOMB!!!. My butter wasn’t soften so I had a different texture for the topping but it was still good. Keep the recipes coming…
I prize my cooking as one of the best, especially since I am from Jamaica and we just know how to cook…..until I happened upon your website. You see Divacancook, I was on youtube looking for a Parmesan recipe but all the videos I watched were more about the cooks and his/her ego trip rather than the recipe, taking upward of half an hour of my time. Then I saw your recipe under four minutes and when I clicked and watched one, two, three, four of your videos then went to your website, I felt like another dimension of cooking has just opened up to me, freely!!!! What you do is not natural but a blessed gift (and might I add your son is a darling). Continue to inspire with your cooking and that voice of kindness…..
GGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGirl you recipes are the BOMB DIGIE.LOVE LOVE YOUR WEB SITE. Keep up the fantastic work.
I LOVE THIS!!!! My husband didn’t save me any. The first batch I left on broil a bit too long but the second batch was beautiful. The food was so good that he ate the beautiful batch but when I left to on an errand he ate the batch that overcooked slightly and he still said it was good lol. I wasn’t going to give him that batch I was going to eat it because it was a bit darker and to me presentation is everything. But this recipe was so good that he didn’t care lol. I am loving this site.
Monique this is the first time im rating but have tried the cheeseburger soup, stuff spinach shells, and this is my third dish. I could never get a nice collection of spices for my fish, and this fish came out soo tasty. Your right it tastes like alot of prep and it wasn’t. You are saving my college experience hunny*-Monique expression. Keep great dishes coming. Love you Monique- wish you much success!
Great recipe! I can eat this anytime. To cut the fat further, I use low fat mayo and its still great.
