Baked Parmesan Tilapia
I’ve probably said this before but tilapia is my families favorite fish. It’s light, easy to prepare, mild flavored and doesn’t stink up my house when I cook it. Oh and Isaac likes it too which is a plus in my book.
I’m always looking for different ways to prepare and flavor tilapia and this baked parmesan tilapia is a winner. The fish is seasoned up to perfection with plain ol seasoning salt and Old Bay blackened seasoning. Bake it for a few minutes and then top with a yummy cheesy, seasoned breadcrumb mixture. All of this is then broiled to form a crisp, golden crust on top of the fish.
Sounds easy right? Well it is! And folks will probably think it’s a complicated dish to make when they taste it. You don’t have to tell them how you whipped that thang up in a matter of minutes.
Add it to your dinner rotation! I’ve tried it several ways; I’ve used crushed seasoned croutons instead of panko, ranch dressing instead of mayo, and changed the spices a bit to get different flavors. So have fun with if you’d like, but I always come back to this tried and true recipe. It’s a classic and always come out tasting great.

Ingredients
- 4 tilapia fillets, thawed
- Old Bay with Blackened Seasoning
- Seasoning salt, I used Lawry's
- 4 Tablespoons Mayonnaise, I used Duke's
- 1/2 cup parmesan cheese, shredded (I used a parmesan-romano-asiago mixture)
- 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs
- 1-2 tablespoons butter, softened
- 1/4 teaspoon paprika
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon basil
- 1/2 tablespoon green onion flakes, can use regular onion flakes
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350
- Place fillets on a baking sheet lined with foil paper and sprayed with nonstick cooking spray.
- Season top of fillets generously with old bay and seasoning salt.
- Bake for 10 minutes.
- Meanwhile mix the remaining ingredients in a medium-size bowl.
- When fish comes out of the oven switch the oven to a LOW BROIL.
- Top the fish with a layer of the breadcrumb mixture, pressing it gently into the fish to keep it in place. (I always have a bit of the mixture left over)
- Broil for 3-5 minutes or until the topping is golden.
- Garnish with parsley.
- Serve and enjoy!
Notes
Watch the broil carefully. Some ovens broil run really hot!
Garnish with fresh parsley to add a pop of color.

Isn’t she precious….. isn’t she marvelous…. so very special…. “in Stevie Wonder’s voice” . I can’t thank you enough for your recipes. You are Fabulously awesome Monique. I discovered you last week when I surprised my BF with a red velvet cake for his birthday dinner (comments from others include: “this is the cake of life”, “there’s no way you learnt how to make this 2 days ago”). Yesterday I attempted the Parmesan Tilapia with the Skinny girl pasta for dinner. My meat loving BF quietly ingested his first helping. Before asking for a second helping he said “this is not dinner, this is supper!” When I asked what the difference was in supper and dinner, he said “Supper is when you are eating the food and blessing the person who prepared it”! Thanks a million Monique for taking the time to not you write these recipes but also showing us how you make these dishes. Dish #4 will be the Italian cake!
This was delicious and looked exactly like the pictures so I was very excited. It was a touch too salty for my family’s taste so I split each fillet in two and made fish tacos and just added extra lettuce and sriracha to cut the salt. My husband RAVED about it 🙂 THANKS!!!
I just made this for my lunch tomorrow and was mad I only made two pieces, this was great.. Cant wait to make it again..
I made these tonight however I substituted the mayo with Ranch dressing and they were BANGING!!! My fiance loved it. I will be making these again soon
My hubby asked me to make this dish again tonight. Instead of using tilapia I used Mahi Mahi fish. Soooo gooood!!!!!
