My son Ethan only eats the inside of Oreo cookies. I can always tell when he’s snuck into the snack cabinet because I find all of these icing-less cookies sandwiched back together and crammed into the trays.
I’m pretty sure that is why he loves this cookies n cream frosting so much. It taste
like much better than the Oreo cream filling.
But this frosting also taste heavenly on chocolate cakes, vanilla cakes, sour cream cakes and even frosted brownies.
It’s your classic vanilla bakery style buttercream frosting only loaded with crushed chocolate cookies!
Homemade frosting is so easy and quick to make there really isn’t a reason to turn to that stuff in the can. Beside there is nothing that taste better than frosting made with fresh butter. Just can’t beat it!
Remember when making the perfect frosting you want to add just enough milk to get the consistency you are going for. Less milk=a firmer frosting and more milk=a softer frosting.
Add the milk a little bit at a time since it doesn’t take much to go from one consistency to another. If you accidentally add more milk you can just throw in more sugar to firm it back up.
Don’t think you have to just stick with the original Oreos in this cookies n cream frosting. I’ve thrown in every cookie and candy under the sun. It just works! So guess the saying is true, “you just can’t go wrong with a buttercream frosting!”
- (double recipe if frosting a 2-3 layer cake)
- 1 cup unsalted butter (2 sticks), softened at room temperate (do not microwave)
- 1-2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 4½ cups powdered sugar, sifted
- 3-4 tablespoons heavy cream
- crushed Oreos
- Mix butter until creamy.
- Mix in vanilla extract.
- Mix in powdered sugar gradually.
- Add in enough heavy whipping cream to get the consistency that you like.
- Frost cake or cupcakes.
